Children must be 12 or turning 12 by end of the calendar year.
The Babysitters Training Course is one of Canada Safety Council's longest running programs. The course is an ideal community project, which can help prevent injuries and promote the responsible management of common situations that may arise while children are under the care of babysitters. Some (not all) of the items from the course are below to give you an idea of what your child will be learning about in this course.
Candidates will learn the important role of being a babysitter and what is expected of them to be a successful one.
This course breaks down each age group and their specific requirements of the babysitter candidate.
Candidates will learn about the safety and prevention methods that can be done to make sure the child is safe and not playing with or eating dangerous toys or foods that are no age appropriate.
Candidates will role play working with different ages of children in order to understand how to effectively communicate and potentially avoid misbehaviour of the children they are babysitting.
Candidates will be taught basic first aid and cpr training to learn how to recognize poisoning, allergic reactions, and environmental emergencies or in the worst case, how to do CPR until help arrives and when to call 911.
